Comfortably Numb

Very busy week. Phish in Pittsburgh on Wednesday
and Roger in Columbus on Thursday didnt give me
enough time to fully recharge all my batteries!
So, I did not record the new songs and I ran completely
out right before the band took their bows and goodnight!
Nobody was sitting in front of me so I could hold on my knee
and very few people walking back and forth and nobody standing
Problem was that I was quite a distance but after reviewing a
few songs, it looks fine. I have a battery change somewhere twice
and must have hit record twice on Wish you were here and missed
most of the song(((.  SOme advice for those yet to see him, A huge,
huge screen cuts down center of the venue for awesome video projections.
Problem is you can only see 1 side of the stage and Roger spent most of
his time on right side of stage so plan accordingly.  Most of the video is
from screens because of lighting and such.
Lastly, Enjoy and share, Post anywhere you like!!

I made this video from the best uploads i could find .. Thanks to everybody who filmed the show ,
and uploaded the videos. Last evening (May 21st) Roger Waters,
just five days away from embarking on his massive North American Us + Them concert tour, staged a production rehearsal concert at the Meadowlands Arena located at the Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford, New Jersey. This venue, formerly known as the Brendan Byrne Arena, Continental Airlines Arena, and Izod Center, has capacity for around 19,000. This concert was performed in front of a smaller audience of some 1,000 invited guests and radio station contest winners. Back in September 2010, Roger staged a similar rehearsal concert prior to the start of his massive 4-year worldwide Wall concert tour – and it took place inside this same venue.

NEW: Roger Waters "Berlin Wall Rehearsals 1990" - 3DVD

Roger Waters
Berlin Wall Rehearsals (HRV DVD 013A)
"Building the Wall"
July 18-20, 1990
Potsdammer Platz, Berlin

Lineage: Master VHS camcorder tapes > Vegas 6 (AVI) > MPEG-2/AC3 stereo

Back in 1990, I hooked up with a journalist who was covering Roger's Berlin Wall concert for a major US publication. When he returned to the US he lent me all of his master tapes which I made dubs of. These 2nd gen copies were sent off to many of my friends encouraging them to circulate them throughout the trading communities. The linegae of all copies out there can be traced back to my 2nd gen dubs... at best.

This summer, while I was out in LA, I hooked up with the filmmaker and I persuaded him to once again lend me his masters. This time I wanted to create a series of DVDs that originated directly from the master source, but instead of simply capturing and burning these to disc, I wanted to present them in a more unique and creative manner.

This project now spans 3 DVDs. The 1st DVD features a 50-minute segment called "Building the Wall" and contains all the non-musical rehearsal footage. There are some nice bonus features on this disc as well. DVD 2 contains all of the
musical rehearsal footage and DVD 3 features the entire dress rehearsal.

LINEAGE:
VHS 1st GEN (from satellite)> Panasonic DMR-ES15 > DVD > Nero Video (chapters) > YOU!

I received this dvd from my father's cousin, it digitalized this 1st GEN vhs for the first time after 28 years for me; that night he recorded the full concert from the satellite transmission in a TV station near Padua; I've imported the dvd .vob in Nero Video and then I've added menù and chapters. Video quality is good, audio is ok. I really hope you enjoy this little treasure rescue after all these years!

RE-UP: Pink Floyd "8MM" - 1DVD - live 1972 - 1977

Pink Floyd 8mm - Harvested Records (HRV DVD 009)

I discovered most of these 8mm films over 20 years ago and have enjoyed watching
my low gen VHS copies ever since. When I began archiving my collection onto DVD,
I knew that one day I'd be faced with the task of digitally remastering these old 8mm
films. I was fortunate enough to know the person that purchased the original films
of the Hollywood Bowl and LA Sports Arena which were professionally transferred to
S-VHS tape in the late 80's. This person was kind enough to loan me his master which
I captured and used as the source for this  DVD. I wish I could say that the Vienna
footage was any better than what has been in circulation, but there's a good chance
that those videos used mine as a source anyway. The short Anaheim 77 footage and
the newly surfaced Munich 77 footage round this collection off nicely. There's not
much available in regards to video footage from 1972-1977 (a very significant time in
the band's history, especially in regards to live performance), so hopefully this will fill in
a few of the gaps for the time being.

Every single shot is not in perfect synch, and some artistic license has been applied
throughout. I also chose to end the DVD with the Munich footage, opting to stray
from the actual chronological order.

8mm took me two years to finish, working in my spare time, and frequently getting
frustrated and stuck. I replaced all the audio from the original footage that had live
sound (LA 75, Vienna 77) and synched up the correct audio to the rest, which was never
properly done until now.

Hollywood Bowl 22 September 1972 (20:46)

Second night at the Oakland Coliseum filmed during the "Division Bell" tour.
This is a typical audience video. It's filmed from the floor on the right hand side of the stage.  It's a bit shaky at times, and sometimes it seems to be filmed through a tube
but it does have some magnificent close-ups Audio.
In my opinion one of the best audience shot taken from the "Division Bell" tour.

Remaster Process:

Virtual Dub Temporal Smoother filter applied at 75% setting.
Tmpgenc simple color correction: Brightness setting 30, Contrast setting 110
Audio EQ'd and normalized using Cool Edit Pro 2

Other Notes:

This is my first attempt at a "remaster". I am not a miracle worker and the quality of the source tape prevents major improvements in the overall quality.
Audio has four major gaps of silence. These appear on every source I've seen from this show.
Video is very dark. Most of set two is hard to see because of the issues in the original taping of the show.
Use of Temporal Smoother removed most video niose but can have a blurring effect. This is the "lesser of two evils" in my opinion.

This is a really nice document about Pink Floyd early days. It contains the longest version I know of Interestellar Overdrive (that's around 30 min.!). As far as I know, any of this material has been officially realeased, but any help in this matter would be appreciated.

editing notes:

I'm always hesitant when asked to do a matrix from audience source,
but this time I couldn't refuse the offer of 3 sources matrix as the tapers choose their seats in order to tape in front of
right and left stacks and from center front row balcony.

center channel upsampled to 24/48, right channel downsampled to 24/48
right and left source stereo image have been narrowed and focused using S1 Shuffler plugin
center channel centered more precisely
frequency response of all sources matched using HarBal 2.3
time matching made using Wavelab
slightly lowered and declicked heavier audience applauses
matrix created using audio montage module in Wavelab
final mastering made using L3Multimaximizer setted with low values on loudest parts, so there's no dynamic compression

Notes:
Compared to the European tour, What Do You Want From Me and Coming Back To Life have been added to the set list while On an Island had been omitted. Singer Lucita Jules has joined
 the band.
Suggested CD burn: Set 1 plus track 201, Set 2 with track 210 omitted.
The Chicago Auditorium Theatre gives up a beautifully balanced and detailed sonic experience, captured by two expert tapers and represented well by this matrix remaster.

FLAC: David Gilmour live in Inglewood 2016 - 2CD - March 27 - IEM-AUD mix

David Gilmour
The Forum, Inglewood, CA, USA
27th March 2016

Multiple IEM + AUD Matrix Source with added more audience from AT-831 recording

RDWM edition

as you know, a great recording of the tour it's  a IEM + aud matrix edition torrented here
it's a great capture indeed but it's my opinion that it has an unbalanced mix with IEM representing about 90% of the mix ... which is too much for my tastes
it sounds dry and thin for me so I decided to add more ambience and audience to that matrix using the AT-831 aud recording
Now it's more likely a live experience and has a full body presence as I EQed both sources...

IEMs usually have not same content in the ears of each musician and works as stage monitor do...
every musician like to hear individual mix and what they hear is different from the final mix sent to PA system

if you know my matrix works you know what you can expect from this edition...
I know that someone prefers dry soundboard recording but not me and this is a seriuos candidate for the definite edition of the tour imho...

Set 1 65:42, set 2 81:48.
Set two begins with 13 Intro and will fit on one CD if Intro/Outro or Encore break are omitted.
*Bass was very excessive in one source while deficient in the other two. Other adjustments were made to attenuate excess frequencies and boost those that were deficient in each source.
Nice stereo separation at beginning of Rattle That Lock and Money
Rattle That Lock Live In Brightonabrigo is a 4th source that came available when this project was in progress. It was from the East balcony so it would have been a nice symmetry to the lord snooty source but it was very hot with extensive clipping and crackle so it was not used.

=======================================================================================

1. WHAT IS IT?
Revisiting UMMAGUMMA as if it was a band-album, including left-overs and alternate versions, plus some home-made edits. Giving it a brandnew concept. (So this could have been PF's first concept album!)

2. WHY?
The idea for this project came in mind when I considered it was a pity that "The Embryo" and "Biding my Time" were recorded for Ummagumma but left out in spite of the concept of making it a 'four-men-solo album'. My first thought was then to burn a copy of Ummagumma for myself, just including those songs at the end of the album. But then I thought: "Why not making it an extended alternate version?" Inspiration also came from Muabdib's studio remix of "The Man & The Journey" (which I recommand!) and  the enhanced Wall version "Every Brick In The Wall".
It's obvious that the original concept of Ummagumma didn't work out like the band wished it to. Quotes from the band members are clear on this subject:

"We all believed it was going to be one of the best things we'd ever put onto record, which I think it was at that time, but the stuff on the album isn't half as good as we can play." -Rick
"For me, it was just an experiment. I think it was badly recorded, the studio side could have been done better. We're thinking of doing it again." -David
"This was absolutely not a band album. The live stuff sounds incredibly antiquated now [...]. We were looking for new ways of constructing an album, although I think what this demonstrates is that our sum is always better than the parts." -Nick

3. WHAT HAS BEEN DONE?
Well, I took the liberty to get rid of that solo-concept, and tried to mix what Ummagumma might have been if it was a real teamwork, giving it a different concept. I don't pretend I improved it, but I wished to include left-outs, unreleased material (principally from ZP, but which fits perfectly in the spirit of Ummagumma) and alternate versions. I had plenty of material (of different quality) to choose from, for 1969 was probably their most prolific year. Therefore I used as far as possible the best sources for those alternate versions, but except for the Zabriskie Point outtakes, quality failed in most of the cases. It's a pity even the audio rip of Grantchester Meadows from the Harvested's KQED DVD is only 19OKbps, hissy and had an annoying hum in the beginning. Other sources had less hiss but much more microphone noise! I tried the best I could to erase this hum and de-hiss it a bit withoput denaturating the audio spectrum with Noise Reduction.

Another thing I permitted myself is to rename some tracks in order to give it the mythological concept I conceived for the occasion. I took inspiration by the example of Sysyphus and Oenone and gave Greek mythological references to the whole album, hence Cronus instead of Eugene, Selene (goddess of the moon) for Moonhead, and a Grand Vizier's Garden party which became an authentic Roman orgie! I recommend you to read the liner notes while listening, for I tried to make it more or less conceptual with a storyline. In contrary, I left the original titles for the live set.
The choice of including 'Careful...' is less obvious, since this is a 68 song. But, I found it a shame that only the single version was available on official sources, and no version of this tune appears on the regular albums. This december 69 take of Careful for the ZP soundtrack is radically different and much closer to what we use to hear on live roio's. The sound effects aer from the film itself, only the stereo effects for the footsteps and the riding car are mine. Other things that could be considered as 'sins' to some purists: I messed a lot with Sysyphus, integrating 'The Riot Scene' from ZP (aka The Violent Sequence, early Us & Them), 'Several Species...' backwards and the Pict rant without animal noises in it. Hence 'Several Species..' has

disappeared from the tracklist! But figure out in case of teamwork, Roger would maybe have done the same. Moreover you can clearly hear Roger rant more or less in the same part on the live version of Sysyphus (a fact I discovered AFTER mixing the studio album!!!)
The same 'dammages' occured to Nick's piece.
Figure out Syd came to help him get this piece a little more attractive!

4. WHAT ABOUT THE LIVE SET?
The live set isn't a gathering of alternate takes of what was originally on the live set of Ummagumma, but more what it would have sounded like if the band had once played (my) Ummagumma live. So here is a REAL live Ummagumma album, assembled from the most "mythic"

shows from 69-70 where the Floyd performed their strangest bits with an incredible energy. Especially on that night in Hamburg 70-11-14, Roger was in an incredibly talkative/rantic mood! Notice that powerful 'Embryo' including some jungle noises à la 'Several Species...' and 'Pow R. Toc H.' Alas and again, the shows featuring the rarest tracks like 'Moonhead' or 'Sysyphus' were badly recorded, and most sources are hissy, muffed, etc. The huge quality difference between the different sources I used, forced me

to use fades between some tracks, which I don't like but was the only way to make it sound acceptable. The SQ skips are more particulary noticeable in the 'meddley' I made.

A special note about 'The Narrow Way Part 3' though. The best recording is the one from the Amsterdam venue of 'The Man & The Journey'
. Musically, however, Dave's vocals are probably the worst he ever did in his whole life! His voice fails on all live performance of 'The Narrow Way'. That's why I choose this recording from the London premiere of 'The Man & The Journey': it's not the best source, but at least the vocals are barely audible, which is not a real loss in this case!

--------------------------------------

This bootleg was compiled from the best available raw sources and was not stolen from other people's compilations. The audio was remastered from an audiophile standpoint. Mono material appears in true mono. There was no additional echo or stereo ambience added. Noise reduction was not used on any material. Hiss was often reduced through equalization. I have tried to present the best sonic experience possible without compromising the integrity of the source material at hand. The final result is the ultimate Syd bootleg. Even hardcore fans should be able to find something worthwhile within.

This second version from August 2012 has new sonic upgrades of Tracks 03, 09, 12, 13, 14 & 15. The intro to Track 01 has been patched with missing material from an inferior source. Tracks 10 & 11 have also had additional speed correction.
